Building Emotional Resilience

Resilience is not about avoiding difficulty — it is about recovering effectively when difficulty arrives. Three evidence-based pillars support it: strong social connections, a sense of purpose, and flexible thinking. Practice reframing setbacks as data rather than failure. Maintain at least two or three relationships where you can be vulnerable. Invest in activities that give your life meaning, even small ones like cooking a good meal or mentoring a colleague. Physical health underpins mental toughness, so protect your sleep, movement, and nutrition. Resilience is a skill you build, not a trait you are born with.
